Community fashion show celebrating Austin's reuse artist community, with looks made from reused materials.
Reuse on the Runway returns to the Branch Park Pavilion on Saturday, October 17, marking its fifth year. It's a community fashion show put on by Austin Creative Reuse, and the whole thing is built around one rule: every look on the runway has to incorporate some element of reused materials or techniques. That's the brief every designer works from, and it's what gives the night its shape.
For the makers, it's a challenge to rethink waste and turn things that might otherwise be thrown away into something wearable. For the rest of us, it's a chance to see how far that can actually go. The show is open to local makers and creators of all kinds, and the organizers describe it as an inclusive, judgment-free environment for them to show off their designs. It's less about high-fashion polish and more about what happens when people start looking at scrap and leftovers as raw material.
That's also where the sustainability part comes in. When you see a runway full of looks made from reused materials, it changes how you think about what we throw away. The organizers frame it as a way to see fashion as both spectacular and sustainable at the same time, and seeing it live makes that a lot easier to wrap your head around than reading it in a brochure.

Behind the scenes, the show is supported in part by an Elevate Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment. If you're more interested in what goes on off-stage, the organizers offer sponsorship packages and ways to join the crew working behind the scenes. The show takes place on October 17 at the Branch Park Pavilion here in Austin.
