A nature-based healing and indigenous gardening workshop held in the ESB-MACC Healing Garden, part of the Casa de la Cultura series.
Raices Vivas is back at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center on Wednesday, August 26, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. It's part of the Casa de la Cultura series, which the center runs to preserve and promote the cultural arts of Mexican Americans and Latino cultures. This particular session is an outdoor program held in the ESB-MACC Healing Garden, a space dedicated to nature-based healing and indigenous gardening education. Each month the garden turns toward the coming season and invites visitors to bring their own maceta to start plants at home.
If you haven't been to the center in a while, it's worth noting that the building reopened to the public on June 6, 2026, following a Phase 2 expansion and renovation of the 2018 Facility Expansion Plan approved by City Council. Beyond the garden, the center offers free gallery access, cultural arts classes and camps, and programs like the Caminos teen leadership program and the Latino/a/e Artist Access Program (LAAP), which gives local artists space to share their work. Raices Vivas fits into that broader mission of keeping the arts accessible and rooted in the community.

Because this is a hands-on session in the garden, you'll want to come prepared. The invitation to bring your own maceta is a good reminder that you're not just watching—you're starting something you can take home and keep growing. RSVP is required to attend. The session runs from 6 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 26, at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River St., Austin, TX 78701.
