A laid-back dance and social night for queers in the service industry with a DJ set, drink specials, and a film screening by the Watermelon Film Club.
The Butterfly Bar hosts a Queer Service Industry Dance & Social on Monday, July 27, from 9 PM to midnight, with doors opening at 8 PM. It's presented by Xander Fae Curiel, and the night is part of Queers Who Run The Industry This Summer, a series Curiel put together as a laid-back social for queer people working in Austin's service industry to meet and find one another in the city, with a safe space to dance and socialize.
The evening starts with a free film screening by the Watermelon Film Club, a local organization that opens the night with a program devoted to Palestinian representation, education, and beauty. Once the screening wraps, DJ KShal takes over with a DJ set that carries the dance floor through the rest of the night. Between the two, there are drink specials running.

If you're in the service industry, you know how hard it can be to find your people when your days off don't line up with everyone else's. This is one of those nights built specifically for that crowd—a chance to hang out with other queer folks from the same world without having to work the room. The film screening gives you a place to settle in early, and the DJ set keeps things moving after. It's free to get in, so you can drop by for the screening and stay for the dancing, or just show up later when the music is in full swing. The Butterfly Bar is at The VORTEX, 2307 Manor Road, Austin, TX 78722.
