Austin City Hall is hosting the city's first LGBTQ+ Pop-Up Cultural Center and Community Social on Monday, August 17, from 5 PM to 7 PM. It's put on by the Austin LGBTQ+ Quality of Life Commission, and the whole thing is built around a single, specific idea: taking their regular Monday meeting and turning it into a preview pop-up of a proposed queer cultural center for the city.
The evening starts with a resource fair and a social, so you can hang out and look around before the official business kicks in. After that, the Commission holds its meeting, and the focus is the future of that first permanent LGBTQ+ Cultural Center. It's a chance to hear the conversation about what a space like that would actually look like and how it would work in Austin.
If you want to weigh in, public comment is open to anyone who signs up in person before 7 PM. If you can't make it in person but still want your voice heard, you can contact Ryan Sperling the day before to arrange virtual comment. Between the resource fair at the start and the meeting that follows, there's a good window to both socialize and get involved in the discussion.
