Acoustic duo Parker Woodland and Mama Duke perform at the Texas Capitol for the free, all-ages HAAM Day Music Festival.
Parker Woodland plays an acoustic set at the Texas Capitol on Tuesday, September 22, as part of the HAAM Day Music Festival. They're followed by Mama Duke, and the whole thing is free and open to all ages.
If you're not familiar, Parker Woodland is an all-woman Austin band fronted by singer and bassist Erin Walters. She pivots her vocals between pop harmonies and a Sleater-Kinney-like attitude, backed by a rare all-woman rhythm section that includes drummer Keri Cinquina. Their album There's No Such Thing as Time is a 10-track collection that grapples with existential threats to the planet and society—climate change and transphobia among them—set against unapologetically bright punk. KUTX has called their music "emotionally charged rock n roll" and "workout jams for toppling the patriarchy," with songs about finding joy in the midst of world-crumbling chaos. Critics have pointed to the hooks and the raw, female-led energy.
This particular set is an acoustic duo version of the band, so it'll be a stripped-down take on their sound. The festival itself is presented by HAAM, Women in Music, FVF Law, and the Texas Music Office.
