Oktoberfest-themed food sale with brats, beer, pretzel bites, and German potato salad on the patio.
Wheatsville Food Co-op is bringing Oktoberfest to South Lamar on Saturday, September 26, with a food sale on its patio from 12 PM to 3 PM. The menu leans into the German theme: brats and beer, pretzel bites with queso, and German potato salad. There are vegan options available, too.
For those who haven't spent much time there, Wheatsville is a long-standing Austin institution—a member-owned grocery cooperative on South Lamar that's open to the public, not just to its members. It's well known for its prepared foods, and that's exactly what's on display here. The co-op took home the 2026 Readers Poll for Neighborhood/Specialty Grocery, adding to a string of past Readers Poll awards for Best Neighborhood Grocery. It's also got a bit of a musical pedigree: back in 1990, it was a Critics Pick for Best Live Music In A Grocery.

This particular afternoon is a nod to the Oktoberfest spirit. Munich's own headquarters had already kicked off its 191st edition the week before, so the co-op is extending that energy to South Lamar with German fare on the patio. It's a simple, daytime setup—brats, beer, and sides served outdoors in the middle of the afternoon. If you're in the neighborhood on a Saturday and in the mood for something a bit more festive than your usual grocery run, it's a good excuse to stop by. The sale runs from 12 PM to 3 PM at the Wheatsville Food Co-op patio, 4001 S. Lamar, Austin, TX 78704.
