Austin Camerata string quartet and vocalist Naala perform classical and contemporary music at The Cathedral, a boutique art gallery in a refurbished 1930s church.
Austin Camerata plays The Cathedral on Saturday, August 15, as part of Noir: String Sessions, a performance series hosted at the gallery. The ensemble is joined by vocalist Naala, and the set pulls from classical and contemporary sources, with the strings and vocals weaving through works by Debussy, Nina Simone, Billie Eilish, and Chappell Roan.
Austin Camerata is a string quartet founded in 2016 that reimagines chamber music across classical, jazz, pop, and rock genres. The lineup for this session is Patrice Calixte, Megan Zapfe, Alex Smith, and Cory Blais. They were nominated for Best Classical Ensemble by the 2018 Austin Critics Table.
Naala joins them on vocals. A classically trained singer turned Alt Pop singer-songwriter from Australia, she's performed for Prince William and played sold-out shows at Austin venues like the Continental Club and Lamberts. The session puts her voice alongside the quartet, with the music set against the backdrop of the gallery's art.
