A community gathering to redefine safety beyond crime and policing, featuring music, speakers, food and community joy.
Night Out for Safety & Liberation comes to Austin on Tuesday, August 4, from 6 PM to 8:30 PM. It's a community gathering that asks a pretty big question: what does safety actually mean for your neighborhood? The whole point is to push the conversation past the usual talk of crime, policing and fear, and instead invite everyone to share what safety looks like to them and their community.
If that sounds like a heavy topic for a Tuesday night, the evening is built to balance it out. The program is centered around music, speakers, food and community joy, so it's as much about hanging out as it is about the conversation. The idea is to get people talking and listening in a space that's more about connection than a formal meeting.
It's a local version of a larger movement, and the focus stays on the community's own voice rather than a set agenda. The organizers describe it as a night for people to redefine safety on their own terms and share those visions with their neighbors.
