Tyagaraja Welch performs Mother Land, a nature immersion performance art piece based on his original music, featuring chill-wave, healing songs and electronic dance music.
Tyagaraja Welch brings Mother Land to The VORTEX on Thursday, October 8. It's a nature immersion performance art piece built around his own original music, and it's a return to the same venue where he played Bridging with Mother back in 2024. He describes Mother Land as a more casual sequel to that show.
The music covers a fair amount of ground: moody instrumental chill-wave and healing songs sit alongside solo acoustic tracks and electronic dance music. Each piece is paired with a psychedelic Nature Art video, so the visuals run as much of the show as the sound. It's less a standard concert and more a performance art piece, with the nature immersion as the central theme.
Welch is a local artist with a few different hats. He's the principal songwriter and singer for the band Light Wheel, a Yogic educator and meditator, and a permaculture farmer with Gilded Granger. That mix—the music, the meditation, and the farming—is a good way to get a sense of where Mother Land comes from. The nature art videos and the nature immersion theme fit right into that.
