Concert by MitiS, a piano-driven melodic bass artist blending chillwave, electro, and drumstep.
MitiS plays Vulcan Gas Company on Friday, December 11, starting at 10 PM. For those who aren't familiar, MitiS is the project of Joseph Torre, who's been working on his piano-driven melodic bass since 2010.
Torre grew up as a classical pianist in Pennsylvania, and that background is where the piano in his sound comes from. His live sets bring those roots to the front, blending his production with the piano work he started with. It's a melodic approach to bass music that keeps the piano as a lead rather than just a background texture.
The sets pull from a wide range of styles—chillwave, electro, drumstep, house, drum & bass, and dubstep. Because he moves across so many different tempos and moods, a single night can go from a slow, atmospheric build to a full-on dance floor. It's a broad reach for one set, and the piano is the common thread that ties the different genres together.

Fans often say they can recognize a MitiS song from the first note, which is a fair way to describe how distinct his sound has become. If you're into melodic bass and want to hear it played with a classical pianist's touch, this is the one. The show is at Vulcan Gas Company, 418 E 6th St, on Friday, December 11, at 10 PM.
