Mike Donello and The New Essentials bring a mix of energetic, soulful sounds blending reggae, rock, blues and pop for a Wednesday night.
Mike Donello and The New Essentials are playing Meanwhile Brewing Co on Wednesday, October 14, with the show starting at 7 PM. It's a mid-week date, so if you're looking for something to do on a Wednesday night, this is a good one to keep in mind.
The band is built around a core trio of singer-songwriters and guitarists: Mike Donello, Matt Creaton, and Chris Hawkes. They're joined by Houston Rawls, who handles both saxophone and bass, and together they pull from reggae, rock, blues, and pop. The percussion comes from cajon and djembe, and the live sound is rounded out by a rotating collective of multi-instrumentalists who drop in to add more texture to the set.
Donello started The New Essentials with fellow Austin musician Matt Creaton back in 2018, and from there it grew into the trio it is now, with Rawls coming in on sax and bass. The mix of reggae, rock, blues, and pop is what they're known for, and the rotating cast of players means the live show can shift depending on who's sitting in.
