Mexico de Colores

Ballet Folklorico de Austin brings Mexico de Colores to the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) on Sunday, September 20, with two performances—one at 2 PM and another at 6 PM. Both run in the MACC Auditorium at 600 River Street.

The show is directed by Carlos Antúnez, who also serves as artistic coordinator of the Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández. He describes Mexico de Colores as a family-friendly cultural spectacle that celebrates the richness and diversity of Mexico through a fusion of folklore, dance, theatricality, and humor. It's billed as an inclusive experience for all ages that honors roots, breaks stereotypes, and celebrates the beauty of being different.

The MACC itself is dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of the cultural arts of Mexican Americans and Latino cultures. The building reopened to the public on June 6, 2026, following Phase 2 of its 2018 Facility Expansion Plan. Beyond the auditorium, it houses gallery exhibits, cultural-arts classes and camps, and artist-run programs like the Caminos teen leadership program and the Latino/a/e Artist Access Program (LAAP).

The performance falls on Austin Museum Day, and the MACC gallery will be open from 1 PM to 5 PM that day, so you can catch an exhibit before or between the two showtimes. The performances are at 2 PM and 6 PM on Sunday, September 20, at the MACC Auditorium, 600 River Street.
