Magnifico, Austin's Queen tribute band, and Brass In Pocket, the Pretenders tribute act, perform at The Continental Club.
Magnifico and Brass In Pocket are playing The Continental Club on Friday, September 4. It's a double bill of two tribute acts, one after the other, starting late into the night. Magnifico takes the stage at 10 PM, and Brass In Pocket follows at 11:45 PM.
Magnifico is billed as Austin's premiere Queen tribute, so that's the first half of the night. Brass In Pocket is an Austin-based act that describes itself as America's Pretenders tribute, playing the songs of Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders—a band they call one of the greatest in rock history. Between the two, you've got a full evening of two very different catalogs, one glam rock and the other new wave, both from bands based right here in town.
The Continental Club has been around since 1957, and Steve Wertheimer took it over thirty years later as an anchor for touring and local Americana, rockabilly and swing. Its Tuesday happy hours mix sultry jazz, country and blues; Monday belongs to homegrown honky tonk with Dale Watson; and regulars include Earl Poole Ball on Saturdays and Heybale! on Sundays. This double bill fits right into that mix of local acts and live music that keeps the place going.
