A new wave album party featuring tracks from The Cure, The Smiths, New Order and Joy Division, benefiting 24 Austin nonprofits as part of the Let's Fund Good summer series.
The Volstead Lounge hosts the Let's Fund Good: New Wave Hits Album Party on Saturday, July 25, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's one of the album parties in the Let's Fund Good summer series, a program of six live concerts and six album parties that brings the community together to support 24 Austin nonprofits. One hundred percent of ticket sales go to the participating organizations.
The night is built around New Wave, with tracks from the era's greatest albums by The Cure, The Smiths, New Order and Joy Division. If you've spent any time with those records, you know the territory they cover: The Cure's atmospheric gloom, The Smiths' jangly guitar and Morrissey's distinctive voice, New Order's dance-floor lean, and the stark, driving post-punk of Joy Division. The set pulls from all four, so you'll hear the mood shift from the danceable to the melancholic over the course of the evening.
There's a dress code suggested for the night: attendees are encouraged to turn up in trench coats. It's a nod to the look of the era—the long coats and grey skies that fit the mood of those particular bands—and it gives you a reason to lean into the theme if you're in the mood to play along. Whether you go full trench coat or just show up for the music, the focus remains on the records.
