Concert by Austin-based singer-songwriter Kelly Willis at The 04 Center.
On Friday, October 2, Kelly Willis will celebrate her birthday in the intimate setting of The 04 Center on South Lamar. An Oklahoma-born singer-songwriter who has spent more than three decades earning her place as a cornerstone of the Austin Americana scene, Willis is an Austin Music Hall of Fame inductee whose voice Robert Christgau once described as "enormous" and whose 1999 album What I Deserve was voted Album of the Year by Austin Music Awards voters and hailed as a comeback for the ages by Rolling Stone and No Depression alike. There's no better way to mark a birthday than a night of live music surrounded by the fans and city that have championed her from the start, and joining her for the celebration are special guests The Guthrie Family Singers — an Austin-based harmony trio comprised of the granddaughters of the legendary Woody Guthrie, bringing folk royalty and four-part harmony to one of South Austin's most intimate listening rooms.
