A teen craft activity where participants use diamond painting to create dino keychains.
Just for Teens: Dazzlin' Dino Keychains is happening at the Austin Public Library Windsor Park Branch on Friday, July 24, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. It's a craft session specifically for teens, and the whole thing is free.
The project is diamond painting, which is basically like paint-by-numbers but with tiny, sparkling resin drills instead of paint. You'll be using that to bedazzle a little dinosaur friend, and once it's all filled in and shimmering, you'll turn it into a keychain. It's the kind of thing that's easy to get lost in for an hour or two, and you walk away with something you actually made.
If you haven't spent much time at the Windsor Park branch, it's worth a look. The current building opened on July 15, 2000, though library services in the area go back to the late 1950s, when bookmobiles delivered to the Windsor Village Shopping Center on Berkman Drive. That was followed in 1963 by the Windsor Village Station, and the permanent building finally arrived after a 1992 bond issue funded six new branches. When you walk in, you're greeted by Paul Bond's bronze sculpture Reading Between the Lions, part of the Austin Art in Public Places program.
