Live music performance by Jim Ortiz & the Ballroom Destroyers at C-Boy's Heart & Soul, a venue in South Congress.
Jim Ortiz & the Ballroom Destroyers play C-Boy's Heart & Soul on Tuesday, August 11, with the show starting at 6:30 PM. It's a single-bill night, so Ortiz and his band are the only act on the program.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, you likely know Jim Ortiz from his work as the guitarist for Amplified Heat. This is his own project, and the Ballroom Destroyers are the band he's fronting here. It's a good chance to catch him leading from the front rather than playing a supporting role in another group.
The venue is C-Boy's Heart & Soul, located at 2008 S. Congress, right at the corner of South Congress and South First. It's one of the more established spots in the South Congress area, and it's owned by Steve Wertheimer, who also runs the Continental Club. Wertheimer dedicated the place to C-Boy Parks, who ran the Rome Inn, a South Congress fixture that's since closed. C-Boy's opened on New Year's Eve 2013, and it's become a regular stop for live music in the neighborhood. On Sundays, the back patio hosts Dale Watson's Chicken Shit Bingo, and there's an upstairs bar modeled after its sister venue just down the street.
