Jerry Maguire: 30th Anniversary!

Paramount and Stateside Theatres are bringing Jerry Maguire back to the big screen on Saturday, August 29, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. It's a 30th anniversary screening of Cameron Crowe's 1996 film, which stars Tom Cruise as the slick sports agent who has a crisis of conscience and pens a heartfelt company-wide memo that promptly gets him fired. Desperate to hang on to the athletes he represents, Jerry starts his own management firm with only single mother Dorothy Boyd joining him. Banking on their sole client, football player Rod Tidwell, the two begin to fall in love as they struggle to make the business work.

Cruise is joined by Cuba Gooding Jr., Renée Zellweger, Kelly Preston, Jerry O'Connell, Jay Mohr, Bonnie Hunt, Regina King, and Jonathan Lipnicki. It's a deep cast for a movie that spends as much time on the relationship between agent and athlete as it does on the romance.

The screening is at the Paramount, which has stood on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin for over a century. Built in 1915, it's the city's oldest surviving theatre and a City and State Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It started as a vaudeville and variety house and still stages comedy, drama, music, dance, spoken word, children's programming, and films, drawing more than 200,000 patrons a year. It's also one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in America, still working with ropes and sandbags, and it shares the street with the State Theatre under the non-profit Austin Theatre Alliance.

Doors open at 6 PM and the show starts at 7 PM on Saturday, August 29, at 713 Congress.
