Live recorded DJ sets featuring high BPM frequencies including Jersey Club, Ghettotech, and House music, part of the HI BPM showcase.
HI BPM takes over Cheer Up Charlies on Friday, July 31, for a night of live recorded DJ sets. It's presented by @flwrpot.co and @dechico.worldz as part of the @hierbamalita Emotional Support DJ Tour, in partnership with @hihatsociety and @area512.co. The music stays in the higher BPM ranges, with jersey club, ghettotech, and house leading the way.
There's a bit of history behind the name. BPM started three years ago as a local femme and non-binary 10-DJ showcase, put together by @area512.co and @flwrpot.co to highlight the underrepresented community that makes culture within the city. This year it returns as HI BPM, and the night is supported in part by a Live Music Fund Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment. From here, the tour is announced to be heading to New York City.
The venue is Cheer Up Charlies at 900 Red River, which they describe as an 'Ambiguous Everybody space' and an LGBTQIA & friends hangout for music, art, dance and partying, with local kombucha on tap. It's a spot that fits the inclusive, community-focused spirit the showcase was built around.
