Formula E is coming to Circuit of the Americas on Saturday, February 6, 2027, bringing its all-electric single-seater world championship to Austin for the first time. COTA is a new addition to the series' calendar, so this is the first time the electric cars will race on this particular stretch of Texas asphalt.
If you've spent any time at the track, you know the layout. COTA opened in 2010-11, designed by Hermann Tilke—the same man behind the Shanghai International Circuit—and has been a regular on the Formula 1 calendar since 2012. It's widely regarded as one of the best modern tracks in world motorsport, and it's famous for its massive elevation changes, which should make for an interesting contrast with the usually flat street circuits Formula E is known for.
The Austin race is part of a record 21-race 2026-27 season that opens the Gen4 era. That's the big news for the gearheads: the Gen4 car is the most powerful Formula E car to date, pushing 600kW—over 815 horsepower—with active all-wheel drive, an active differential, and dual aerodynamic configurations. It's also built from 100% recyclable or reusable materials.

Austin joins a short list of U.S. stops, following Miami, Long Beach, New York City, and Portland. It also makes COTA the fifth major auto race held at the venue, alongside F1's United States Grand Prix, MotoGP's United States motorcycle Grand Prix, the WEC's Lone Star Le Mans, and NASCAR's race weekend. The race is on Saturday, February 6, 2027, at Circuit of the Americas.
