Father of the Bride

Father of the Bride screens at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, August 22, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic film series. It's the 1991 comedy directed by Charles Shyer, and it runs 105 minutes. Steve Martin stars as the father who takes wedding planning to a neurotic extreme, with Diane Keaton as his wife. Martin Short, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kieran Culkin, and BD Wong round out the cast.

The screening is presented by Paramount and Stateside Theatres, and it's shown in DCP. The Paramount itself is a downtown Austin landmark on Congress Avenue that's been around for more than a century—built in 1915, it's the city's oldest surviving theatre, listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a City and State Landmark. It's also one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in the country. Originally a Vaudeville and variety house, it still hosts comedy, drama, music, dance, spoken word, children's programming, and films, drawing more than 200,000 patrons a year. It's home to Austin's red-carpet film premieres and the Moontower Comedy Festival, and it operates alongside the State Theatre next door under The Austin Theatre Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Doors open at 2:30 PM and the show starts at 3:30 PM, so you'll have plenty of time to get settled before the movie kicks off. The Paramount is at 713 Congress, right in the heart of downtown.
