Elizabeth Chiles presents her new artist book, Time Being, at First Light Books on Tuesday, September 1. It's a conversation with art historian and curator Sarah C. Bancroft, followed by a Q&A and a book signing.
Time Being is a 52-page artist book with full-bleed color illustrations and hand-sewn figure-8 saddle-stitch construction, conceived as a contemplative walk through a garden. Chiles is an artist and educator whose work explores phenomenology, perception, and ecology. She's taught at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University, and her work has been shown at The Ransom Center and The Contemporary Austin. She's represented by Richard Levy Gallery in New Mexico.
Joining her for the evening is Sarah C. Bancroft, an art executive and curator with more than 20 years of experience at institutions like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Guggenheim Bilbao, and the Menil Collection. The two will talk through the book, and afterward, the floor opens for a Q&A before Chiles signs copies.
