Drive: 15th Anniversary!

Drive returns to the big screen at The State Theatre on Sunday, August 23, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. It's the 15th anniversary of the movie, which first came out in 2011, and the screening is one of the big-screen favorites the series brings to downtown Austin every summer.

Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive runs 100 minutes and will be shown in color on DCP. Ryan Gosling stars as the unnamed driver, and he's joined by Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Oscar Isaac, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, and Russ Tamblyn. If you've only seen it on a small screen, this is a chance to see it the way it was meant to be watched.

The screening is part of the 51st Annual Paramount Summer Classic Film Series, which brings big-screen favorites to the historic downtown venues. The series is run by the Austin Theatre Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that manages both the Paramount and the neighboring State Theatre. The Paramount itself has stood on Congress Avenue for over a century; built in 1915, it's the city's oldest surviving theatre. Originally a Vaudeville and variety house, it's a City and State Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places and one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in America. These days it hosts Austin's red-carpet film premieres and the Moontower Comedy Festival.

Doors open at 6 PM and the show starts at 7 PM. Tickets are $2.
