Weekly reggae and ska night featuring the Mau Mau Chaplains and the Tijuana Train Wreck horn section at Flamingo Cantina.
Dreadneck Wednesdays continue at Flamingo Cantina on Wednesday, October 7, part of the weekly reggae series the venue runs every Wednesday night. The night is also called Dreadneck Night, and it's billed as the best regular reggae and ska show in town and the only place to be on a Wednesday night in Austin.
The Mau Mau Chaplains are the main feature, and they've played here every Wednesday for the last decade. They draw on several hundred years of collective reggae experience and have helped define the Sixth Street music scene. Their sound combines four-part harmonies with a driving reggae beat and a full horn section provided by the Tijuana Train Wreck, which they bill as a professional reggae orchestra.
It's not just about the music, either. The night serves authentic Jamaican food cooked up by Winston's Kitchen, so you can eat while you listen. If you can't make it in person, the show streams each Wednesday around 10:30 PM on Flamingo Cantina's Facebook or YouTube, and from 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM on Austin Music TV / Austin Public Access.
