Double or Nothing Two-Step

Double or Nothing Two-Step holds its weekly lessons at Sagebrush on South Congress, and Tuesday, August 25, is one of those nights. It's a two-part setup: the beginner lesson starts at 6 PM, and the intermediate one follows at 7 PM. If you've never danced before, the beginner class is where you start; if you've already got the basics down, the intermediate one is for you. Both are drop-in, so you don't need to sign up in advance.

One of the best things about these classes is that you don't need a partner to show up. Partners rotate throughout the session, so you'll dance with a few different people rather than sticking with one person all night. You also don't need any prior experience to get started—the instructors are known for getting first-timers up and dancing the same night. As for what to wear, boots are welcome, but sneakers do the job just as well.

Double or Nothing is Austin's honky-tonk dance school, and they've built their reputation on the Austin honky-tonk two-step—a small-space dance that evolved to fit the city's dance floors. It's a local style, and the school has been named Best Two-Stepping Lessons in The Austin Chronicle's Best of Austin. Beyond these weekly sessions, they offer studio classes in polka, waltz, and honky-tonk jitterbug, as well as private lessons and an online course. They also take their dancing to corporate events, weddings, and bachelorette parties for groups from six to 6,000 people. The instructors say they've taught more than 50,000 people to two-step, and they've worked with companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, TikTok, Starbucks, Red Bull, HBO Max, Tecovas, Kendra Scott, and Cirque du Soleil.

Lessons are $10 cash at the door. The beginner class starts at 6 PM, the intermediate at 7 PM, both at Sagebrush on South Congress.
