Concert by Austin songwriter Dom Francis at C-Boy's Heart & Soul Bar, free entry for those 21 and over.
Dom Francis plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul Bar on Monday, August 17, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. He's an Austin songwriter who describes his work as more than just writing songs — he says he attempts to create worlds. The music is rooted in folk and rock but doesn't stick to one genre, drifting through shadowy dreamscapes, desert highways, and crooked back alleys.
Francis didn't start here. He was raised in the Northeast and spent time in El Paso, Missouri, and Appalachia before settling in Austin. That stretch of road shows up in the imagery he works with: the desert highways and the back alleys aren't just lines in a song, they're places he's actually been. It gives the lyrics a specific kind of weight, like he's writing from a map he's actually traveled.
His debut album, The Wanderer, is described as playing like a midnight postcard, all analog warmth, raw edges, and lyrics that linger. It's the kind of record that sits in the folk end of his range. His sophomore record, The State of Things, which came out in February, shifts gears into electric rock n roll energy. Between the two, you can hear the range he's working with — the quiet, atmospheric side and the louder, electric one.
