Dom Francis

Dom Francis plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul Bar on Monday, July 27, with his set starting at 6:30 PM. He's performing solo, drawing from his debut album, The Wanderer, and his sophomore record, The State of Things, both of which are out now.

Francis describes his approach as more than just writing songs; he says he attempts to create worlds. The music is rooted in folk and rock but doesn't stick to one genre, drifting through shadowy dreamscapes, desert highways, and backwoods silence. It's the kind of sound that suggests a specific place and a particular mood, and the two albums give you a good sense of where he's been.

That background comes through in his own history. He was raised in the Northeast and spent time in El Paso, Missouri, and Appalachia before settling in Austin. The Wanderer is described as analog warmth with raw edges, and The State of Things follows it. Hearing them together in one set lets you trace that line from one record to the next.

C-Boy's is a lounge that programs music seven days a week, introduced by The Continental Club's Steve Wertheimer. The show is on Monday, July 27, at 6:30 PM, at 2008 S Congress Ave. There's no cover, and the night is for over-21s only.
