Day of Dance

Day of Dance takes over the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 12, from 10 AM to 5 PM. It's a free, all-ages, all-abilities community festival put on by MINDPOP and Austin ISD Fine Arts, with support from an Elevate Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment.

The day is built around a few different things happening at once. There are dance performances to watch, dance classes you can actually join, live music, and interactive activities. The classes are open to all ages and abilities, so you don't need to be a dancer to get involved. There's also a high-energy DJ Dance Party, a Bubble Dance Party, and a citywide flashmob.

What brings it together is the mix of people. Professional dance companies share the space with youth performers, teaching artists, educators, families, and community members. The whole thing is meant to celebrate Austin's dance community across generations, cultures, and traditions, with the accessibility part—classes for all ages and abilities—at the center of it. It's designed to be a welcoming way for people from all backgrounds to experience movement.

It runs from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd., and admission is free.
