Austin-based singer-songwriter David Ramirez performs live at The 04 Center as part of the South Austin Song Circle series.
David Ramirez plays The 04 Center on Wednesday, January 14, as part of the South Austin Song Circle. He's an Austin singer-songwriter with a long run behind him: six full-length studio albums, three EPs, and a fair amount of collaboration, including a stint in the supergroup Glorietta.
There's a specific story behind where he is now. After a long relationship ended, Ramirez stepped back from writing for a while to process his grief as a person rather than as an artist. He describes the album that came out of that period as one that would be hopeful, sweet, and beautiful. It's a shift from the heavier ground he's covered in the past, and it's the kind of thing that's easier to hear in a room than on a record.
He's also the subject of Time Undone, a 2020 album by Kalu and the Electric Joint. That one was recorded with producer Brett Orrison and features guest appearances from members of Widespread Panic, The War on Drugs, The Sword, and Grupo Fantasma—a wide-ranging list of names that points to the different circles he's moved through over the years.
