Two-step dance lessons with Dancin' Austin, open to beginners and experienced dancers, with no partner required.
Dancin' Austin holds Texas Two-Step lessons at The White Horse on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with Beth Coffey leading the sessions. It's one of those East Austin traditions that's become a staple for people who want to pick up the dance without overthinking it.
The lessons start at 7 PM and are open to beginners and experienced dancers alike. They're easy-to-follow sessions, and you don't need a partner to join in—the friendly instructors will get you sorted. Once the lesson wraps, the room stays open for live country music, so you can put what you just learned into practice right then and there.
That's a big part of why it works. The White Horse, better known as the White Horse Saloon, is an East Austin live-music honky-tonk with a full-service bar, an outdoor patio and smoking area, and live music seven days a week. The authentic honky-tonk atmosphere has helped make Austin's two-step community one of the most vibrant in Texas, and these lessons are a way to get a foot in the door.

On the practical side, there are no reservations. The lessons are donation-based, but after 7:30 PM a cover charge applies. Dancers pay by cash or Venmo. If you're coming on a Sunday, keep in mind that the lessons only run Thursday through Saturday, so you'll want to plan for one of those nights.
