Dance Waterloo presents Kinetic Threads

Dance Waterloo brings Kinetic Threads to the Dougherty Arts Center on Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, with performances starting at 7:30 PM both nights. It's a contemporary dance piece built around six original works, each choreographed by a different person: Morgan Teel, Jess Gray, Mia Moi, Marilyn Connelly, and Choreographic Fellows Lilly Wylde and Hayley Miller. The dancing is handled by a nine-person ensemble—Jess Gray, Marilyn Connelly, Laura Merkel, Lily Zapatero, Siobhan Klugh, Anabelle Maples, Daniela Vargas, Lilly Wylde, and Hayley Miller—so you'll see the same group of bodies moving through six different visions.

There isn't a single spoken word in the show. Instead, the movement maps out the invisible networks that hold us together—referral, memory, trust, and mutual reliance. It's about how we come to know things, not just from what we learn, but from who we learn it from, and the pathways that information, care, and insight take as they move between us across shifting moments of solitude and connection. The title Kinetic Threads points right to that: the invisible lines connecting one person to another.

There's also a part for the audience. Before the show, you can anonymously leave a question—practical, personal, or community-minded—that other guests might come across. Between the dances, everyone moves to a new chair and may find a question left by someone else, weaving a web of shared knowledge throughout the evening. It turns the room into part of the piece.

Dance Waterloo is part of the Artist Access Program through the City of Austin's Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment Department and the Dougherty Arts Center. Tickets start at $9 and are open to all ages, though they increase as the performance approaches. Both shows start at 7:30 PM at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Rd.
