Book signing with author Dan Jones for his book 'Castles: A Fortified History of the World'.
Dan Jones is coming to BookPeople on Thursday, November 19, for a talk and signing to mark the release of his new book, Castles: A Fortified History of the World. The session starts at 7 PM on the second floor of the bookstore at 603 North Lamar Boulevard.
If you're not familiar with Jones, he's a New York Times bestselling historian who's spent years writing about the Middle Ages and the power struggles of the British Isles. Castles takes that interest and expands it to a global scale, telling the history of the world through more than three thousand years of fortifications. He traces the line from the walls of Troy and Krak des Chevaliers through to Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, Himeji, and Fort Sumter. It's a broad sweep of time and geography, with the castle as the common thread.
This is far from his first foray into the subject. Jones has written a long list of history books, including Henry V, Powers and Thrones, Crusaders, The Templars, The Plantagenets, Wars of the Roses, and Magna Carta. He's also written the Essex Dogs trilogy of novels, hosts the podcast This is History: A Dynasty to Die For, and has produced and presented dozens of television shows, including the Netflix series Secrets of Great British Castles. Since 2025, he's been a member of the board of trustees for Historic Royal Palaces.
