Salsa group Combo Chévere performs live at the Asleep At The Wheel stage in the airport, open to airport patrons.
Combo Chévere plays the Asleep At The Wheel Stage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Thursday, October 15, from 4 PM to 6 PM. If you're not usually one for airport music, this is a good reason to change that: they're one of Austin's newest salsa groups, and they're playing live right in the terminal.
There's a bit of history behind the name. The band is made up of the musicians from La Tradición, a group that's been on indefinite hiatus. Rather than just stop playing, they decided to fill the void with this new project, and they're keeping the same core of players together. It's the same people you might recognize from the old name, just working under a new one.
As for what they play, they're pulling from a few different places. The set covers Cuban and Latin styles, with salsa at the center, and they bring in New York and Puerto Rican styles too. It's a broad reach across the Latin dance tradition, so you'll hear a mix of sounds rather than just one specific scene. If you've followed the musicians from their previous work, this is where they're taking things next.

The performance is open to the public, but it's only for airport patrons, so you'll need to be inside the terminal to catch it. They'll be on the Asleep At The Wheel Stage from 4 PM to 6 PM on Thursday, October 15.
