If you're not familiar with the venue, the Paramount has stood on Congress Avenue in the heart of downtown Austin for more than a century. It opened in 1915, making it the city's oldest surviving theatre, and it's a City of Austin Landmark and State Landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was originally conceived as a vaudeville and variety house, and it's one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in America, built with ropes and sandbags. These days it's a hub of Austin's film and comedy scene, hosting red carpet premieres and forming part of the programs for SXSW, the Austin Film Festival, and the Moontower Comedy Festival. It's run alongside the neighboring State Theatre by the Austin Theatre Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
