Movement Mondays: Rumba MX, a Latin rhythm-based fitness class blending cumbia and salsa.
Casa De La Cultura brings Rumba MX to the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center on Monday, August 10. It's part of their Movement Mondays series, so if you're looking for a way to get moving on a Monday, this is it.
Rumba MX is a Latin rhythm-based fitness class that blends cumbia and salsa. If you've ever wanted to dance to those sounds but didn't know where to start, a class like this is a good place to pick it up. Cumbia brings that steady, driving beat from Colombia, and salsa adds the syncopation and flair from the Caribbean, and the class works them together into a workout. You'll be moving through the rhythms of both styles, so it's as much about the music as it is about the exercise.

Because it's a fitness class, you don't need to be a dancer to show up. The whole point is to move along with the music, and the Latin rhythms do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. It's a good way to spend a Monday afternoon or evening if you'd rather be dancing than sitting at a desk. The class is held at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, which is a great spot for this kind of thing, right here in Austin. It's a Monday, August 10, so mark your calendar if you want to join in.
