A monthly guided walking group that explores the trail surrounding the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, focusing on community, movement and local history.
Casa de la Cultura is hosting another Caminata con Calma at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center on Saturday, July 25. It's a guided community walk along the trail that circles the center, and it's part of a monthly series rooted in community, movement, and learning.
The name gives it away: Caminata con Calma is a slow walk, taken "de poquito a poquito," one step at a time. As the group makes its way around the trail, you'll stop to hear the stories, look at the public art, and get a sense of the history behind the space. It's not a hike or a workout; it's a stroll meant to help people connect with each other, with their culture, and with the shared spaces they inhabit. Everyone is welcome, and that includes furry companions, so you can bring your dog along.
Because it's a guided walk, you're not just wandering on your own—you're moving with a group and listening as you go. The pace is relaxed and accessible, and since it's a monthly thing, it's something you can drop into whenever it fits your schedule. If you've spent time around the center before, this is a way to see it from a different angle and hear the stories that don't always come up when you're just passing through.
