Cactus Lee is the project of Austin singer-songwriter Kevin Dehan. He launched it in 2019, and since then he's built a reputation around a dreamy blend of country, folk, Americana, and indie rock. It's a sound that sits somewhere between those worlds, and it's made him one of the city's more distinctive emerging artists. He's known for his prolific songwriting and intimate recordings, and there's an unmistakably Texas feel to it all.
That Texas connection comes through in who he cites as influences. He draws from classic songwriters like Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Tom T. Hall, and Gene Clark, and he layers that tradition with a lo-fi, psychedelic warmth. What started as a solo recording project has grown into something more: Dehan now performs with a rotating band of accomplished Austin musicians, so the songs get a full-band treatment on stage. The lyrics themselves paint vivid portraits of small-town Texas, family, love, loss, and life on the road.
