Concert by singer-songwriter Emily Nenni performing her album 'Movin' Shoes' at The White Horse in Austin.
Emily Nenni plays The White Horse on Wednesday, December 8, as part of her Movin' Shoes tour. She's a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who also fronts the band Movin' Shoes, and this is a headline date with her as the sole bill.
The set will draw from her fourth full-length album, Movin' Shoes, which came out May 1 on New West Records. It's a thirteen-track record she cut at Matt Ross-Spang's Southern Grooves studio with producer John James Tourville of The Deslondes. Nenni describes the album as being as much about dancing as about following the steps of understanding and respect, and that duality carries through the songwriting.
Her influences are right out in the open here. The record pulls from regional performers, 60s girl groups, and honky-tonk heroes, and the tracklist includes covers of Paul Simon, Delbert McClinton, and Cass Elliott. Hearing those names side by side gives you a good sense of where she's coming from—the girl-group harmonies and the honky-tonk shuffle sitting in the same room.
