A pop-up adult dance workshop blending musical theater flair with classic jazz moves, inspired by iconic Broadway shows, suitable for all skill levels.
Ballet Austin is running a Broadway jazz workshop through August 23 at the Butler Dance Education Center, 501 West 3rd Street in downtown Austin. It's one of their pop-up adult dance experiences, so it's a standalone series rather than a full-term class. The sessions run from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM on Sundays, and they've been going since August 2, so there are still a few weeks left to jump in.
The style is exactly what it sounds like: a blend of musical theater flair and the sharp, stylish moves of classic jazz. The choreography is inspired by iconic Broadway shows, and the focus stays on storytelling, stage presence, and dynamic performance quality—the kind of things that make a dance feel like a scene from a show rather than just a set of steps. It's less about getting the footwork perfect and more about how you sell it.
Company instructors lead the sessions, and they're open to both seasoned dancers and beginners, so you don't need a background in dance to take part. If you're coming in fresh, the only real preparation is what you wear: comfortable clothing and a pair of heels, jazz shoes, or sneakers. Since it's a pop-up, you can drop in for a single Sunday or stick with it through the end of the month.
