Bob Schneider & The Moonlight Orchestra

Bob Schneider & The Moonlight Orchestra play ACL Live at The Moody Theater on Saturday, Nov 28, at 8 PM. If you've lived in Austin for any length of time, you already know the name. Schneider has been a fixture of the local scene for decades, a songwriter who moves between pop, hip-hop, folk, and a biting sense of humor that usually lands right in the middle of the set.

He's been recording for 25 years. Before going solo, he fronted the funk-rock combo Joe Rockhead and the alt-rock supergroup Ugly Americans, which toured with Dave Matthews Band and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. In the late 1990s, he led the funk ensemble The Scabs. His first solo album, Songs Sung and Played on Guitar at the Same Time, came out in 1998. Since then, his music has appeared on the soundtracks of seven major motion pictures, and he's been named Musician of the Year six times at the Austin Music Awards.

Beyond the stage, he runs a songwriting challenge group he started 16 years ago, with Jason Mraz among its most consistent participants. He also keeps a regular presence at the Saxon Pub, where he plays Monday nights—material he doesn't perform anywhere else—and records and sells copies of past performances to keep every show fresh.

This one is with The Moonlight Orchestra, so it's a bigger production than his usual solo or small-band setups. The show is Saturday, Nov 28, at 8 PM at ACL Live at The Moody Theater.
