An aerial dance poem by the Austin-based company Blue Lapis Light, exploring themes of grief, impermanence and transformation under the stars.
Blue Lapis Light is bringing Carried by the Winds to One Texas Center at 505 Barton Springs Road, with performances running September 17–20 and September 25–27. It's an outdoor aerial dance poem, staged under the stars, so you'll be watching it open-air rather than inside a theater.
Blue Lapis Light is an Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit led by Artistic Director Sally Jacques, who also handles the artistic direction here. The company's whole thing is site-specific aerial work—pieces designed for a particular location rather than a standard stage—and Carried by the Winds fits that mold. It's built around the quote, "Walk with grace on the earth and peace in your heart; awaken to the wildness of your soul and live in its guidance."
Jacques describes the piece as a prayer for the planet, drawing its imagery from the chaos of our times and honoring the vastness of loss and the fragile beauty of what remains. The dancers rise and fall between earth and sky as if carried by unseen currents, moving toward the light with grace, surrender and quiet resolve. Their bodies become fleeting memories, whispered prayers and echoes of lives forever changed. Staged outdoors, the work invites the audience to witness grief, impermanence and the enduring possibility of transformation. All ages are welcome.

Performances are at 8:30 PM, with an extra 6:30 PM show on Saturdays. There are three seating options: $25 ground seating on concrete—bring a blanket or cushion, as there are no chairs—$45 general admission in metal folding chairs from the third row back, and $55 prime seating in cushioned folding chairs in the first two rows. Paid parking is available at 505 Barton Springs Road for $20 per vehicle.
