A conversation with artists Simon and Niki Haas, moderated by Blanton Chief Curator Carter Foster, with book signing and museum admission.
Simon and Niki Haas are coming to the Blanton Museum of Art on Sunday, November 15, for a conversation that marks their mid-career retrospective. They'll be sitting down with Blanton Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Collections Carter Foster, who'll be moderating the talk. The whole thing runs from 2:00 PM to 3:15 PM.
Since the brothers grew up here, a good chunk of the conversation looks back at Austin and the city's creative culture in the 1990s. From there, they'll talk about how they work together—and with other artists and fabricators—and the role popular culture plays in their subject matter. They also focus on craft as something essential to both their process and the meaning of the work, so that should be a big part of the discussion.
This is part of Blanton Live, the museum's signature series that brings together artists and creative thinkers from different disciplines to talk through the ideas and issues of the day. Past speakers have included Jerry Saltz, Katherine Hayhoe, Julian Brave Noisecat, Jeff Goodell, Gajin Fujita, Susan Napier, Mellissa Huber, and former FBI agents Geoff Kelly and Tim Carpenter.

Tickets are $30 for members and $40 for general admission, and they include admission to the museum before or after the program. You'll also get a signed copy of the brothers' Uncanny Valley catalogue. Just a heads-up: regular museum discounts—like UT ID, Military, K-12 Teacher, Student, and Senior—don't apply to this one.
