Live country music performance featuring the Blake Whitmire Band and The Mellows at The White Horse.
The Blake Whitmire Band and The Mellows play The White Horse on Tuesday, August 4, with music running from 7:30 PM to 1:00 AM. It's a double bill that stretches well into the night, and the two bands come from opposite coasts: the Blake Whitmire Band calls Austin home, while The Mellows are visiting from Southern California.
The night is split between them. The Blake Whitmire Band takes the stage from 10:00 PM to 11:45 PM, and The Mellows follow from 11:55 PM to 1:55 AM. If you're only in for one, you've got your choice of the local act or the West Coast visitors; if you stay for both, you're looking at nearly four hours of music across the two sets.
The venue is The White Horse, at 500 Comal Street. It opened in December 2011, when co-owners Nathan Hill and Denis O'Donnell carried on the honky-tonk tradition they'd honed while managing the Hole in the Wall. Over the years, the room has helped launch modern outlaw country acts like Mike & the Moonpies and Leo Rondeau. Its low-set stage and packed, multi-generational dancing crowd embody Austin's age-old ethos, and Sundays there long belong to local institution Conjunto Los Pinkys.
