Barfield, The Tyrant are back at The Continental Club on Thursday, July 30, as part of their regular Thursday night run. It's a late one, starting at 10:30 PM, so you've got plenty of time for dinner and drinks before the music kicks in.

If you've never caught them, the band is led by veteran frontman Mike Barfield, who pulls together Texas soul, funk, blues, garage rock, and a touch of psychedelic swagger. They describe the sound as one part Johnny Cash, one part The Clash, with James Brown and Screamin' Jay Hawkins in the mix. It's a high-energy show that draws from Austin's country, blues, soul, and rock'n'roll scenes, and guitarist Johnny Moeller of the Fabulous Thunderbirds has been a longtime collaborator in shaping that unmistakable Texas funk sound.

They're known as much for the spectacle as for the music. Barfield brings a larger-than-life stage presence, gritty vocals, and dance moves that have built him a loyal following over the years. It's a live act that works best when you're in the room, and they've been a fixture at the Continental Club for a long time.
