A free, non-competitive 1 to 3 mile walk presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, with an opening ceremony and community tables.
The Austin Out of the Darkness Walk returns to St. Edward's University on Sunday, October 18, presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Central Texas Chapter. It's a non-competitive 1 to 3 mile course that brings neighbors together in remembrance, support, and hope. You can walk on your own or form a team with family, friends, coworkers, or community groups.
The morning starts with an opening ceremony, followed by hope-and-healing activities, community resource tables, and complimentary honor beads. It's a sister event to the Overnight Out of the Darkness walk, which sets off at sunset and runs until around sunrise across 16 to 18 miles to shed light on suicide. Funds raised from the walk support suicide-prevention research, advocacy, and education programs across Texas.
