Austin Latinx Micro-Book Festival

Red Salmon Arts is hosting the inaugural Austin Latinx Micro-Book Festival this weekend at Red Salmon Arts | Resistencia Bookstore, 2000 Thrasher Ln in Barton Springs. It's a two-day festival running Saturday, August 29, from 10:30 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday, August 30, from 12 PM to 7 PM. The schedule mixes writing workshops, readings, book signings, music, and mixers, all centered on Chicanx, Latinx, and Indigenous writers.

There's a specific lineage behind this. The festival follows in the footsteps of the Inter-American Book Fair and Literary Festival, which ran every fall at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio. Back in the 1990s, that fair was a place to hear and learn about literature centering on the BIPOC experience. Red Salmon Arts is picking up that thread, with a mandate to celebrate the literacy and literature of Chicano/a/x, Latinx, and Indigenous writers—both established and up-and-coming—alongside authors, storytellers, and cultural keepers from across Texas.

Red Salmon Arts itself is a 501(c)3 grassroots cultural arts organization with a thirty-year history of working in Austin's indigenous neighborhoods. This festival is supported in part by an Elevate Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment, with additional funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Pecan Street Association, and the First Bingo Cooperative Association.

Admission is free. The festival runs Saturday from 10:30 AM to 7 PM and Sunday from 12 PM to 7 PM at Red Salmon Arts | Resistencia Bookstore, 2000 Thrasher Ln.
