Concert by the influential punk rock band Agent Orange at Pershing Hall.
Agent Orange play Pershing Hall on Friday, September 18, their only Austin date this fall. They're a punk band from Orange County, California, and they've been at it since 1979. If you've never heard of them, they're known for blending hardcore punk with surf rock, a sound that helped shape skate punk culture.
Their album Living in Darkness became an underground classic, and their song "Bloodstains" is one of the most recognized punk tracks out there—it's turned up in skate videos and punk compilations for years. The set they're bringing to Austin leans on that early material: "Bloodstains," "Everything Turns Grey," and "Too Young to Die" are all on the list.
That surf-punk mix is exactly what they're known for. The hardcore side brings the speed and the energy, and the surf rock adds the reverb-heavy guitar lines that tie it to the California coast. It's a sound that fits as well in a skate park as it does in a club.
