Neo-traditional country concert by Aaron McDonnell at The White Horse.
Aaron McDonnell plays The White Horse on Friday, September 18, starting at 8 PM. He's one of the premier neo-traditional country acts in Texas, with more than 1,500 shows played and several top 40 hits to his name. He's signed to the Austin-based Feels So Good Records, so this is a hometown show.
McDonnell has been keeping a steady pace with new music over the last few years. In February 2022, he released the album Too Many Days Like Saturday Night, followed by the 2023 EP You Drive Back and the 2024 LP Midnight Pool Mix. He's toured Ireland, the UK, and around the United States, and he's played enough stages to have a deep catalog to pull from.
Critics usually point to two things when they describe his sound: a butter-soft baritone and dreamy pedal steel. They've drawn comparisons to the moody world of Dwight Yoakam's 1000 Miles From Nowhere and the dour music of 90s Chris Isaak, so if those are your speed, this is right in that wheelhouse. It's country that leans into the atmospheric and the melodic rather than the honky-tonk side of things.
