An intimate benefit supporting the preservation of the historic First Spiritualist Church of Austin in Hyde Park, featuring a cocktail reception and presentation on the golden age of spiritualism.
A Séance at the Driskill: Dialogues with the Dead comes to The Driskill on Friday, October 30, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's an intimate benefit for the preservation of the historic First Spiritualist Church of Austin, and the whole evening is hosted in the church's Crystal Room in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
The night returns the church to its historic roots, and it's set up as a benefit to help keep the landmark location going. It opens with a cocktail reception, and from there it moves into a presentation on the golden age of spiritualism—the era when people across the country were turning to mediums and séances to connect with the other side. The title, Dialogues with the Dead, points exactly to that: the practice of trying to hold a conversation with those who've passed on.
Because it's a benefit, the evening is about more than just the presentation. The funds raised go toward the preservation of the First Spiritualist Church of Austin itself, a landmark in Hyde Park. The church is the one putting this on, and the Crystal Room is where it all happens.
