A jazz festival celebrating women in jazz with performances by Gerald Albright, Pamela Hart, Althea Rene, Kayla Waters and Jazmin Ghent.
The 4th Annual Austin Women in Jazz Festival comes to Austin PBS on Saturday, September 5, with a lineup of five artists and a headliner who's a household name in the jazz world. The festival is put on by the Women in Jazz Association, Inc., which has been keeping jazz alive in Austin for over 30 years and works to preserve the genre through youth education, senior outreach, and community programs. They describe the night as more than a concert: a celebration of women in jazz, culture, community, and world-class music.
The bill is an all-women lineup led by Pamela Hart, known around town as Austin's First Lady of Jazz and a 2018 Austin Jazz Society Hall of Fame inductee. She's joined by Kayla Waters, Jazmin Ghent, and Althea Rene. The special guest headliner is Gerald Albright, a Grammy-nominated saxophonist and global jazz icon with more than 20 albums behind him and collaborations with Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Ray Parker Jr., and Phil Collins. The whole thing lands on Labor Day Weekend in the Live Music Capital of the World, so it's a good way to spend the holiday weekend.
